Growing up in Cleveland I understand perfectly. Must be the charcoal in the water.

Your view is clouded by the purple reflection off the SEIU shirts that suround you.

That's fine. I've been surrounded by union people many times before. They don't frighten me at all. As a matter of fact, I rather enjoy their company. Having been raised in a mostly union family and been a member myself for a few years.
How about you?

I have many relatives who are firefighters and thus, union members. I do know that their position wrt work and compensation is entirely different than mine. I was once a liberal, but, after having a small business, I discovered how regulations can choke a business. I'm also not a fan of the religious right or any single issue voters for that matter. Where's your TR avatar?

I change my avatar more frequently than I change my skivvies. This one is Walter Reuther.
Sounds like we have a little common ground. The religious right drives me nuts, (I live less than 2 miles from Regent University and Pat Robertson.), and single issue/party line voters I tend to view as the most "sheeple-ish" among us. I've never run a small business, but I have friends/family that do, or have at some point.
The thing I've noticed is the ones that do, seem to do quite well. My cousin owns a couple apartment buildings and runs a disaster recovery business in the worst part (economically) of Ohio and seems to do very well. The guy is always taking nice vacations, has a beautiful home and family and a stable full of classic collectable cars. I have a buddy, lives across the street and is a self employed commercial refrigeration maintenance type. He likes to brag that he "work when I feel like it". So, I really don't understand what all of the bitching is about. What I hear doesn't match what I see. I guess I haven't walked in those shoes, so I don't really know, but............................

Robertson that close would make me nervous. The businesses that fail aren't as visible and remembered as those that succeed. A lot of businesses fail because of lack of capital. Immigrants seem to do well because they minimize costs and spread the risk out over their extended family. Sadly, a growth business here in SoCal is drug rehabilitation services.

Back to Wisconsin and the plight of the unions and their Governor. Here's an interesting graph that shows that the tremendous pension obligation shortfalls are a direct result of the economic cataclysm of the past several years.* In effect, the states' investments with their pensions funds goes tits up and their employees get to suffer as a result of the malfeasance and fraud of those who caused the housing market collapse (who we bailed out, BTW). Maybe the big, bailed-out Wall Street firms should kick in a trillion or so to bail out the mess they helped create now that they're solvent and insanely profitable again.

A recent poll shows some public support for the unions is Wisconsin.
The resolution of this could prove interesting. The bullheadedness of the Gov. looks like it may result in him losing both the battle and the war.
IMHO, it may well be a battle that needs to be fought, but the GOP's general seems like a real doofus.
