More evidence the Russian shock & awe isn't shocking who they expected.

Can you hear me now?

Russian soldiers have switched off their encrypted phone system after towers were destroyed and are using normal phones with local sim cards, according to Bellingcat, an open-source investigative journalism organization.
Nothing but mad respect to the Ukrainian defenders.

Looks like Putin has blinked. Story on Yahoo suggests peace possible:

Quote:
Russia has issued a list of demands for Ukraine to follow if its invasion is to come to an end.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov gave Moscow's most explicit statement so far of the terms it wants to impose on Ukraine to halt its "special military operation", which is now in its 12th day.

Pesko said Ukraine must:

Cease military action

Change its constitution to enshrine neutrality

Acknowledge Crimea as Russian territory

Recognise the separatist republics of Donetsk and Lugansk as independent territories.

The outlining of Russia’s demands came as delegations from Russia and Ukraine prepared to meet on Monday for a third round of talks.

Peskov said that, if those conditions are met, Russia's military action will halt "in a moment".

He added: "They should make amendments to the constitution according to which Ukraine would reject any aims to enter any bloc. This is possible only by making changes to the constitution."
These aren't great or fair, but they are tremendously better than continued destruction of cities with great loss of life and eventual occupation of country. On the face if it, well worth talking about. Main drawback is they'd have to trust Russia not to get them some disarmed and then invade again.

That, and it tells the world that conventional war is a one-way street called Marx Avenue.

Punch the bully in the nose. They respect stuff like that.

There’s an easy way to punish Putin and save Americans money. Republicans don’t like it
If we made Big Oil pay right now, it would save Americans money at the gas pump and hit Russia where it hurts. But then the GOP wouldn’t be able to blame President Biden for high prices — and they wouldn’t be able to push their fossil fuel agendas either

Of course Repubes hate this idea - Big Oil keeps them in power.

This our last chance to do this right.

We need to launch a submarine's worth of cruise missiles on Russian targets in the Ukraine.

The Pentagon can immediately apologize and promise a full investigation. Two hours later, we can announce that an automated launch accidently ensued when a computer technician swapped out a Chinese made IC chip in a computer.
