Nazi poptart, Jacob Wahl cited for violating the KKK act.

"Right-wing activists Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman’s robocalls targeting Black voters violated the Voting Rights Act and Ku Klux Klan Act — and the question isn’t close enough to require a jury, a federal judge ruled." Law & Crime

I think this, from Robert Reich, is spot on.

Why Republicans are obsessed with pedophilia, gender identity, gay people, and abortion

Quote:
On March 28, Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill banning kindergarten through third-grade public school teachers from talking about sexual orientation or gender identity, calling it an “anti-grooming bill” and accusing opponents of wanting to groom young children for sexual exploitation.

The Republican Party, once a proud proponent of limited government, has turned itself into a font of sexual innuendo and legal intrusion into the most intimate aspects of personal life. Protecting children from predators is a worthy aim, to be sure, but the GOP is obsessing about all aspects of sex. Why?

First, it’s part of their culture war, and culture wars sell with voters (and the media) eager for conflict and titillation. A culture war over sex sells even better. It lets Republicans imply that Democrats are somehow on the side of sexual “deviants” who endanger the “natural order.”

Also, by focusing on sex, Republicans can court both the evangelical right and the rightwing extreme QAnon vote (with its the loony “Pizzagate” conspiracy claim that Hillary Clinton was a pedophile).
An infant devouring cannibal, in some of the more fringy right wing circles.

On a MAWA/Q-ANON forum where I have spent some time since the beginning of the pandemic, there has been a focus on a specific case of a middle school social worker who was helping out a gender questioning girl student, which included providing resources for elastic wraps that are being used by pre-adolescent girls in social and school setting to diminish the appearance of their breasts. So...the social worker is a "pedophile groomer" and anybody who supports confidentiality rights for children (over the age of 12 in most states) is also a "pedophile groomer". So the parents are suing the school district and and social worker and school psychologist for not violating state confidentiality laws and disclosing this to the parents. Specifically, the social worker advised the girl that she did not have to disclose anything about their meetings, nor would the parents be provided any information from the worker.

And I took a considerable amount of heat from the assholes on that forum for my support of confidentiality rights of children between the ages and 12 and 18 years...also being tagged as a "pedophile groomer" social worker. Why call it an "anti-grooming" bill...for just this reason, anbody who opposes the Desantis bill supports the "grooming" of children. as Reich points out in the article.

Finally, we all know that the most likely place that a young girl in this country will experience grooming and molestation is in the middle of the night in her own bedroom by her own daddy. And anybody who says mommy doesn't know what's going on is a fucking liar.

And I apologize in advance for use of the binary term "girl" in this post. and not more appropriate pronouns.

It happened there: how democracy died in Hungary
A new kind of authoritarianism is taking root in Europe — and there are warning signs for America.

Just read any one of Whell's posts, and you'll know it's already taken root here.

Whell is flat out mild compared to a lot of what I have run into in other forums. Its open vicious hostility to anyone who isnt a white supremacist christian nationalist. Including use of every sick slur one can imagine.

They do seem to be getting braver in the wild. Is it they are more plentiful or just feeling accepted now, not fearing the exposure? Being outwardly aggressive the norm.

Scary times ahead indeed.

I think its still 20% or so of the electorate...scary enough though, and considering what Mussolini was able to accomplish with 20% of the population and half of the elected officials in Italy who hooked their political wagons to him...plenty scary enough.

It will not take much research to discover just how easy a take over can be. The 20% can or will historically scare enough of the population into submission. By the misguided belief that it will not get that bad, others will step up or it will pass. Be able to control.....

History if full of examples.

Once the Judicial, law enforcement is in their control the rest is easy.

That 20% may scare many into submission but once they use force, and they will have to at some point, it's going to blow up on them. Many Americans may be influenced but many more simply don't like being pushed around. The wackadoodles running the Republican party are turning a lot of folks off.

They will be the very ones who will go after firearms! Seizing the weapons of those who are not in the fold. With the support of their willing followers! This being one of the first steps taken after gaining control.

Look at what is going on across the world. Just yesterday in Israel and still in the country of Georgia. Mass demonstrations against the governments, water cannons, tear gas being used.

Coming events that will make 1968, 2020 come to mind.

Mussolini was able to accomplish the takeover of fascism in Italy in the 1920's, with effective use of scapgoats (in the case of 1920's Italy it was communists)...with a minority percentage of hard core cult of personality supporters in the electorate... and with enough politicians already in office who felt he was their best chance of holding on to their office in difficult political times due to inflation and major public discontent with the government, and that opposing him could end their political careers. Populism and nationalism tied it all up in a neat little bow.

Sound familiar?

Differences between then and now? The scapegoats now are any immigrants, any non-christians, and of course Jews, who are always convenient scapegoats. There Jews weren't in 1920's Italy...of course 10 years later they were the only necessary scapegoat in Germany. Communists don't seem to be a scapegoat these days, which explains the populist support for Putin right now. Putin is still and will always be a communist and is utilizing Hitler's Sudetenland playbook word for word in his attempt to annex Ukraine. We also have a doddering Constitution which does not apply in way too many cases anymore, and that is obviously vulnerable in modern times to manipulation in the legislative and judicial branches of government.

And of course...it's mankind, which is the greatest threat of all. We are, after all, locusts with a little intelligence and way, way too much technology. Everywhere we go, sooner or later, everything dies.
