Tesla Is Recalling 46,000 Cybertrucks Because Steel Panels Are Flying Off

The official recall comes just a week after Tesla reportedly halted Cybertruck deliveries over this very concern, which Road & Track first reported on back in February. For several weeks now, reports from owners posted to social media appear to show how the cant rails are pulling away from the body. (As a reminder, the cant rail is the long piece that runs along the top of the side windows, coming to an angular peak at the roof’s highest point and contributing heavily to the Cybertruck’s pointy design.)

Why are the cant rails coming off? Turns out they’re essentially just aesthetic pieces, and Tesla secured them to the vehicle with adhesive that is prone to “environmental embrittlement,” according to filings with the National Highway Transportation safety Administration. Tesla says that it’s possible for the panel to “delaminate at the adhesive joint, which may cause the panel to separate from the vehicle.”

When I bought my Tesla Model 3 in 2018, I used to joke that they should let Hyundai assemble their cars, the build quality was atrocious for a $60K car, cheap plastic interior with fake leather seats. I had paid $5K for a premium interior, but unfortunately the car was bought before it was introduced in the market.

My opinion has not changed, they cannot build a quality vehicle even after charging obscene premiums for their vehicles.
