Although America loves it's veterans more at certain times than at others. Vets of my era were particularly not beloved. And we can't blame it all on the hippies either. There were thousands of vocal anti-Vietnam war vets (I'm one of them). You think we got grief from the kids...the WWII and Korean War vets were pretty much just as hostile to us as well. In the years shortly after the end of the Vietnam fiasco, we were not particularly welcome at Vets of Foreign Wars or American Legion Posts. The only reason that has changed is because most of the old guys are gone, and the ones that remain don't get out much anymore. It's the primary reason for the founding of Vietnam Veterans of America in 1978.

As far as I'm concerned there is a continued luke warm attitude in this country toward Vietnam Vets and Vietnam Era Vets.

BTW - I'm all for a military draft. And everybody goes and serves 2 years in some fashion. If you're in a wheelchair you get an administrative job. But everybody goes. No student deferments, no married with children deferments, no "essential employment" deferments. The only deferment is if you're so severely disabled that there is no possible service category available.

No wealthy or connected kid can escape service. Most importantly, every warmongering Congressional chickenhawk's kid goes and has just as good a chance of coming home in a box as the kid of the maintenance man in their condo. Everybody goes, everybody dies.

We'll see if the Congress is so anxious to fund another personal war of Presidential legacy like we got in 2003.

In addition, it points obviousness into why engaging you in intellectual debate is nothing past charity and pity as you possess no intellect.

But, as measure of explanation, someone posted a ridiculous query related to how I would do in a specific subset of humanity (without it being relevant). All I did was report having spent time with the architect of a renaissance in leadership within that faction (during the late 1980s and about a decade ago, more formally) discussing specifically those sorts of ideas.

It is true that, perhaps, folks who think would not have performed well in 1969 and linear non-thinkers were deemed superior with the issue they eventually become folks like you and Ike. That's why Jim Webb specifically demanded organizational change in 1987.
