As to your friend with the H&K. I take it that he's not much of a shooter if he's unfamiliar with a decocker. Actually, I'm surprised that if he is such a rube that he would spring for an H&K.
Sounds more like a F.I.E. owner to me, although I do take your word.
No doubt my experiences with firearms owners are different than yours. The crowd I run with have been shooting every since their momma took away the rubber tit, and are pretty much in retirement...or at least close, such as myself. Then again, we used to live in a rural environment, until the last 20 years or so.
Of course, 20 years ago no one around here much carried a handgun...we generally carried a 12 ga or a .30-06. The Ruger 10-22 was pretty popular too, until they got customized to the point that they were too expensive to get skinned up in a pickup.
We just don't see firearms as a big deal. And we don't lug one around unless we see a reason to. And, at least speaking for myself, it you're going to go somewhere where a firearm for self defense is needed, you shouldn't go there in the first place.
Discretion is the better part of valor.

And I wish this was a more widely spread view of firearm ownership, but it is far too practical and doesn't garner votes or contributions.

Both here, in VA and in my rural Ohio hometown, I have watched people tote around guns everywhere they go my entire life.................and had no sensible reason to do so. Still don't.

Just nine miles North of the Ohio River from downtown Louisville KY in Indiana
There is talk from the new Governor on stopping the lifetime permit. But there is such a backlog on applications the wait is now a few months. But the receipt is as good as one. Been after my Son's and wife to get one before they go away.
What is F.I.E. BTW?
The friend with the H&K is a machinist at the Ford Truck plant for thirty years. Restores Bikes and tube gear. Knows how to use guns, just buys and sells them at auctions and so forth. Had it but never liked it because it as double action on every pull. The second shot was the same as the first. I was looking it over to see if it would work for the wife. That is when I decocked it to his surprise! He is one of the few people I would trust giving a gun to. I'm just saying even a person experienced in the use and handling firearms can be ignorant. I feel all should be trained, not everyone will take the time to learn the correct operations of their weapons. Not fun!
Safety accidents happen, my Father was shot in the heart by my Uncle at fourteen with a "unloaded pistol". Carried the slug the rest of his life.

I'm fortunate enough to be firing a Ar-15, a 1911, and a Mauser bolt action 22 this weekend among others
Don't carry but know folks that do, legally and illegally. If the fuzz can't protect you you have the right to protect yourself.

Another reason why Zimmerman shot and killed Trayvon illegally. Zimmerman knew law enforcement was on their way and would be there momentarily. He just couldn't keep his Dirty Harry wanna be urges under control so law enforcement could deal with the situation he created.

Now what sort of normal person would do such a thing? Who gets out of their car and starts chasing pedestrians? Only a wacko.
Now I guess it is possible Zimmerman bit off more than he could chew, and (entirely his own fault by the way) found himself lying under Martin and became afraid that Martin might kill him and thus shot him. Although if you were pinned by Martin would it not be hard to shoot him?I do not know..
I think Zimmerman gained weight to look like a soft chipmunk ...if you look at the videos of when the police brought him to the station he is much more leaner and seems much more sinister. I think Martin was fighting for his life and no wonder Zimmerman was beat up and contused. I think the term creepy to characterize Zimmerman is on point.

You do realize, if you were on the Jury this would compel you to vote not guilty.

F.I.E. used to make, or at least sell some of the most miserable firearms in existence.
Concerning the H&K. I don't think I've ever seen a DAO with a decocker. I'm like your friend, I don't think too much of them.

No Zimmerman DNA found under Martin's fingernails and none of Martin's DNA found on the gun.
If the fight happened as George re counted it? How is that even possible? He claimed that Trayvon grabbed his head and pounded it on the pavement, repeatedly.

Actually as I said before....getting your head "slammed" into the concrete more than once or twice would be an automatic brain scan (CT) at any emergency room.
The question MSNBC says should be asked...when did Martin take the safety off of his weapon?

Zimmerman is guilty as hell. The whole thing is a joke. (And, a very expensive one at that.) But he will probably walk because so many are worried what effect a guilty verdict might have on the SYG law.
There is more riding on this juries decision than whether or not Zimmerman goes to jail.
Personally, I thought we had due process and innocence before assumption of guilt in this country. How did it come to the point that someone like Zimmerman gets to play Judge, Jury and Executioner under the premise that he can kill someone then attempt to explain his actions..........ex post facto?
I blame Hollywood and a nation full of morons. But, that's me. I'm just crazy that way.
