Lot of good all that scheming did Vos, he died in a plane crash. Bob Dole does not come off smelling of roses either. Just goes to show you what human greed does to people.

Wow, thanks Rob. I knew the NRA members were/are being played but I had no idea all this mess is to directly fill Pee-air's pockets through his rifle importing business.
Kinda like chumps donating money to Exxon or even the Koch Bros for them to lobby against the best interests of the American people.

"When Sen. Howard M. Metzenbaum, an Ohio Democrat and member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, learned about the language buried in an appropriations bill, he cried foul.
On the floor of the Senate, he railed against the legislative fix, detailing the history of the Blue Sky deal all the way back to the Dole amendment.
“This is a provision designed to help one group of people make millions of dollars . . . when conduct by persons associated with this group is the subject of a criminal investigation,” Metzenbaum said.
Despite his objections, the appropriations bill with the gun amendment was approved by Congress and signed in to law by President Ronald Reagan.
The legislation included language granting federal agencies the power to object if the measure interfered with any ongoing criminal investigation. After a review of the Korea deal by John Bolton, an assistant attorney general in the Reagan administration, and no objections from the State and Defense departments, Treasury officials signed off on the imports.
Blue Sky had the green light to bring 200,000 M-1 military rifles into the U.S. market." WaPo

Now, where have I heard that name before? Bolded

Yup, one of many from that era. There was no shiney city on a hill. Just a bunch of cynical and corrupt a$$holes hellbent on the destruction of America's standing in this world. All for money and power. St. Ronnie of RKO was, is and forever will be a doddering frontman for these evil people.

My understanding is that he fell under the spell of Ayn Rand while in Hollywood. Her Ayn Rand Institute is now based in Irvine, CA. I don't know if it existed during Reagan's time, but Ayn Rand worked for one of the Hollywood film outfits during the 30's.

Later in life she moved to NYC and of course Reagan to DC. That's when the NYC/DC symbiotic relationship really took off.

When Reagan ran for president Ayn Rand railed against him. She blabbered some nonsense about hating his religion. IMO she really hated him because he was taking a hard line against communism.

I do not know anything really about Rand, but I sort of assumed she was anti-communist since all of these people like Paul Ryan love her.....and in Madmen (the tv show) the CEO of the advertising firm all the characters work in has Atlas Shrugged in his office.
