From Wiki:

Quote:
The World Press Freedom Index (WPFI) is an annual ranking of countries compiled and published by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) since 2002 based upon the non-governmental organization's own assessment of the countries' press freedom records in the previous year. It intends to reflect the degree of freedom that journalists, news organizations, and netizens have in each country, and the efforts made by authorities to respect this freedom. Reporters Without Borders notes that the WPFI only deals with press freedom and does not measure the quality of journalism in the countries it assesses, nor does it look at human rights violations in general.
The latest https://rsf.org/en/index

Though the group is named World Press Freedom Index, I read this as the truth published by the press and/or censorship shaping the news.

China, Iran and South Korea are at the bottom, most Western European countries are at the top and thanks to Faux, we are at #57.

There will be a reckoning as the sleeping giant awakens from this nightmare | Opinion - R. Reich

"I wrote an earlier version of this piece shortly after the start of this horrific regime. The regime has become far more horrific since then — worse than I’d feared.

I mentioned then that a woman I didn’t know was about to pass me on the sidewalk and then stopped, turned toward me, and almost shouted, “It’s a f------ nightmare!”

Well, it has been a “f------ nightmare.”

But a “f------ nightmare” is not all bad if it awakens America.

America is like a sleeping giant whose passion for democracy and social justice is fearless, once awakened.

The giant doesn’t awaken easily, but a nightmare can do it.

Remember how Martin Luther King Jr. mobilized the nation against racial injustice? He let everyone see its horrors. Night after night on television, America saw peaceful Black people getting clubbed and arrested for exercising their rights.

A true nightmare.

Yet were it not for that painful national exposure to racist brutality, we wouldn’t have gotten the Civil Rights Act or the Voting Rights Act.

Something similar happened in the first years of the 20th century, when muckraking journalists revealed the giant monopolies, corruption, and public harms of the robber barons.

Were it not for that painful national exposure, we wouldn’t have gotten the reforms of the Progressive Era."....
... "Be well. Be safe. We will prevail."

continued https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/opini...69064c05&ei=17

We will prevail, indeed.

First we get angry, real angry. Get up off your ass and do something angry. Then we need more leaders to focus that anger. Alternatives, solutions and a path forward must be presented.
As I've said elsewhere, the 2026 election is the Democrats to lose. As I've said here. We are at war and we damn well better start acting like it.

I am not as enthused as you are.

The Democrats can certainly win the house especially if the Big Ugly spending bill passes the House and Senate reconciliation bill which just pushed through the Budget committee.

House Republicans from Blue states who vote for the bill will face an angry electorate and those who vote against it will be primaried by Trusk militia.

But if the party continues to be led by the same group, they will get very little support from the Dem voters. Get them all riled up but the voters still need to go to the polls.

A lot depends on what progress the Trump administration can make in their plan to encroach upon and consume the powers of Congress. If they get far enough with their nefarious plot, a Democrats' rout of MAGA Republicans in the 2026 midterms could be rendered meaningless.

Agreed, the current party leadership appears asleep at the switch. New leadership must come forth. Just standing by and waiting for the current regime to fail is a recipe for failure. AnAs the saying goes, the best defense is a good offense.
A Democrats' rout of MAGA Republicans in the 2026 midterms could set up a battle between the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch with the Judicial Branch playing referee.

... and that's the best-case scenario!
