I'm assuming this has been proffered before but if not here's the speculation I find most possible...

Iran is behind this whole thing. The hate for Israel and the US is more incendiary in Iran than anywhere else so...

Khamenei (or whichever sick fuck is running things in Iran) contacts Haniyeh (or whichever sick fuck happens to be running things at this point in Gaza), and says "Look Ismail, Iran will fund you and get you whatever you need to make a broad and deadly attack of Jew civilians in Israel...go get 'em. You will be a hero to Islamofascists all over the world.

Why would Iran do this? Because what they want is not the murder of a few thousand Jews, it is the retaliatory attacks by Israel on Gaza. Which Iran hopes will kill tens of thousands of people in Gaza, generating the rising up of all of Israel's friendly pacifist neighbors who only want peace...setting off a regional conflict that fucks up everything for the western powers. Iran wants tens of thousands of people in Gaza killed...it's what they're hoping for.
