I agree, good car.
Also, a car thats paid for is always the best car IMO. It'd be a bitch to buy gas AND make payments on top of having to carry 'full coverage' insurance ... even if it got 40 mpg. We only made payments on one vehicle and once it was paid off we made sure to never do that shit again. Buy 10 year old used for cheap, pay cash, drive it a decade or more. My wifes still happy with her 79 rust free TN Camaro she paid cash for in 1988 in highschool. We've spent about 1000.00 total on it since 1988 ( '' I '' rebuilt the engine in 1991 and the transmission in 98 or 99 ). It still has a good original front end under it other than the idler arm I replaced when she first got it, but luckily we don't have salt or potholes eating or beating cars apart. Not to bad for 23 years of open road four barrel kickin'.

The Chevy is now in the D-Ray family. It has 102K, and needs a new paint job, a new vinyl roof, belts, and the rear-view mirror attached. It now has a new battery, new oil, filters and pcv valve. When the temp gets above 50, I will reattach the rear-view mirror.
Below are a few cell-phone pics of the Chevy and also the car my father-in-law didn't offer us.
Regards,
D-Ray

Hillbilly, Yeah for sure, paid for is great! Can you imagine having a 9whatever the average car payment is - must be near $400 a mo?), and then gas hits $4-5? Ouch!
Up here it's the salt that kills them. My 97 ran just fine, the interior was still quite nice, but the cancer was starting A good paint job is pricey. The car had 210-220 k on it. Hard to justify the $$$.

Wow D, that's great! I like the full roof. I must've been thinking of perhaps later models.
And the Maserati - looks like trouble
Does the Chevy need anything, lenses trim bits etc? If you shoot me a list I'll keep an eye out.

I would have held out for the Maserati.

That body style of Chevy was great, long lasting vehicle. Law enforcement and cab companies put crazy miles on those things and they held up.
"My Maserati does 185, I lost my license, now it don't drive........"
Seriously, that is a sweet ride. Ever get to drive it, Don?

I won't be able to drive the Mazerati until I lose 50 lbs. or so. On the other hand, the Caprice was made for us full figured types. I do actually like the looks of the Chevy. I hope the boys take good care of her.

A coupla things, Grumpy turned me on to rockauto.com
There is also a way to search for all their closeouts for your particular vehicle. This is for a 87 Caprice Classic Brougham with a 305:
http://www.rockauto.com/RSS/vehiclef...l=en&html=true
If you buy anything there is ALWAYS 5% off codes for Rock floating around the internet, or PM me.
And, I just tried 'Leather Honey' for my leather. It's a bit tough to apply but kids are good for that It's really good stuff. I got it on eBay. Wash with very mild dishsoap or Woolite first.
