Tipping is absolutely a free choice here in Germany. All servers are paid at least minimum wage, per law; which is currently €12,82.

I think it is absolutely ridiculous that in the US some servers basically work for free for their "employer", and rely on the customer tipping to make money.

I believe this was a loophole to pay below minimum wage.

And successive Republican administration always blunt any attempt to raise the minimum wage, yet tax cuts are no problem since that is borrowed money and the burden is distributed.

Also the minimum wage varies from state to state. Alabama is at $7.25 whereas California is at $16.00. But in Santa Clara county, the minimum wage is $20.00

Having lived in Germany for over a decade, I much prefer the system there where the server does not even expect a tip beyond maybe rounding it up to the next Euro. One might think that our system whereby the server is dependent on tips would result in better service than in Germany. It simply isn't so. Service staff in Germany are far more competent and professional than they are are.

Since COVID and the proliferation of handheld terminals that put a suggested 20% tip on nearly everything you buy from a cup of coffee to a beer, it's really gotten out of hand here.

I am definitely old enough to not succumb to pressure and tip if I didn´t want to.

The problem is, in the US, is that I can imagine that if you don´t tip the pizza guy enough, he might do something disgusting to your next delivery .

When we order food, and that is once or twice a week, most of the time the delivery person gives me our food and turns around to go back down the 80 steps leading up to our appartment. I have to be quick and call them back so that I can give them their well deserved tip of €3-€5 just for climbing all those stairs.

They don´t expect any tip, but always smile and say thanks

Russian Bots Roast 'Clown' Donald Trump After Putin Comments

Russian bots have turned on U.S. President Donald Trump after he publicly criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin over the war in Ukraine.

Almost 1,000 derogatory posts targeting Trump have surfaced on the Russian social media platform VKontakte since Sunday, when Trump wrote on Truth Social that Putin had gone "absolutely CRAZY!" and was "needlessly killing a lot of people" in Ukraine.

The accounts, operating "in the interests of the Kremlin," have accused Trump of having dementia and called him a "clown," Agentstvo, an independent investigative Russian news outlet, reported on Tuesday.

Just a tiff or more permanent. Putin really wants to take over Ukraine whereas Trump couldn't care less. But he once again grabs the headlines for a couple of days simply for calling Putin crazy.
