First Don-the-Con tries to destroy our faith in our elections. Now he's trying to destroy our faith in the judicial system.

Martha Stewart got prison time on her first fraud conviction for much less.

My concern is that this conviction may be overturned on appeal on the grounds that AG Bragg's felony indictment based on "another crime" is an overreach. Whether this is done at the appellate level or by the Scotus is unknown. But if I am betting, the Scotus will overturn the felony conviction. Question remains, will Trump make an emergency appeal to the Catholic Court and will they take it up?

I think the conviction is solid. NY law is clear that one does not need to prosecute the predicate crime, only that the fraudulent bookkeeping is done with the intent of concealing or committing another crime. Similarly, in order to charge/prosecute assault with intent to kill, the victim need not have been killed by the assailant, only that he intended (unsuccessfully) to do so.

I wouldn't be too sure. The Federalists / Libertarians are really, really pissed, and there are several of their ilk, unfortunately, sitting at SCOTUS. They are interpreting this as a violation of federal law...

Say Conald loses the election and faces (at least) three more court (felony) cases. Will the SC put their fingers on the scale of justice in all three. Two cases if Judge "Loose" Cannon finds a way to scuttle the documents case in FL.

To get to the Supreme court on the case, one needs a federal constitutional issue. Or a federal constitutional pretext, anyway. I'd be very surprised if there was one that a non-corrupt court would entertain for one minute, but they can appeal up to the Supreme Court anyway....

The fact that the Alito-Thomas court took up Trump's executive immunity case is what makes me suspicious that they can and will meddle. Its not just the MAGA cult who wants Trump to be #47, its also the 0.1%'ers, aka the mega billionaires.

There was no earthly reason for the S-Court to take up Trump's immunity claim either, but they did. Was it just a stalling tactic or will there be a watered down executive immunity granted just for show, a power trip. Its due by end of this month. This court is extremely political and not even trying to hide it. Mrs. Alito seems to be just as much a basket case and a loose cannon as Ginny Thomas.

I have assumed all along that's what will happen.
