Second Constitutional Convention required. The first thing that needs to happen on this country is to stop the never ending arguing about what the slave owning, white male, elitist landowners intended.

That Republican love of vigilante justice. The same people who now tell us; "We are a nation of laws, not a nation of men.", openly advocate ordinary citizens playing judge, jury and executioner. The irony of it is as fascinating as their denial of their latent bigotry; "We don't hate gays, we hate their gayness.". (The wing nut "Christian" version of non-hate.) and the right wing whackjob version of "Liberty" wherein you fight big, oppressive government by militarizing law enforcement and attack people who protest against police brutality.

And, they wonder why we think they're stupid.

Totally agree.
I'm not advocating wholesale confiscation and prohibition, but a sensible responsible approach that satisfies sporting, hunting for response wildlife husbandry, and household defense purposes with appropriate weaponry. Military class rapid fire high capacity semi automatic firearms would be strictly regulated for hazardous animal threats and LEO use only. Permitting with renewal on application, no guardianship of weaponry without authorization, and no personal arsenals of firearms, or suspiciously large stocks of ammo without authorization. Prepping for the bubba revolution isn't a rational justification for a personal arsenal.

Treat them as the hazardous threat they present, not man-toys and commodities.
The problem would be trust of the authorizing agency, as it is and has been.

It was a country music festival. I'm pretty sure there were people in the crowd with carry permits and possible packing at the event.

What damn good did it do anybody?

Notice that in these shootings, even when there IS a "good citizen with a gun" present when it starts; They run.

Why?

Because, oftentimes the attackers plan for it. Element of surprise, positioning, cover of darkness, range advantage, superior firepower................

You might as well be carrying a pacifier in that holster. Actually, I'd say that's all it is, anyways.

Open carry is stupid, it sez, "I'm your threat, shoot me first" to the bad guy. It sez "I might be the perp, I am an armed threat" to LEO. Stupid.

As a cop friend once asked me; "You roll up on a situation at say.....a bar or a night club and see two or three guys shooting at each other. It's dark, it's chaotic with dozens of people running about, distraught, confused, panicking........... Which ones are the bad guys?".

I'm not alone when seeing a pistol on the hip in public by a civilian. To snicker and think what an @$$hole. Wanting to show off a toy and intimidate others. Both juvenile traits. Not smart enough to pass the test or can't get a CCP??

I'm only comfortable with open carry if I see a LEO badge displayed with the bang-bang.

I read an account of a guy who was armed at the festival and considered pulling out his weapon. Not knowing where the shooting was coming from, he was concerned that if he had his weapon out, law enforcement might think he was the bad guy and take him out.

The 2nd Amendment has become a crappy religion to feed cash to the arms industry without regard to the glut of poorly accounted arms and the consequent casualties.
