You have to pave the way with bits of data to eradicate rage. Hitting folks who are angry and wrong with the whole kielbasa just makes them madder.

Regarding point 1.

There's a difference between 'knowing you're right' and 'being right.' People often 'know they're right' due to their identity, their status, because it's 'them.' I get the feeling you buy into this feeling that the cops are 'right' by definition. And if they're ever wrong, see rule one.

It would also be OK if their leaked a lie, to modify the narrative, wouldn't it? After all, see rule one.

The individuals in the vicinity of where you point may be some of those things in some cases, but you don't know. You haven't talked to them, you haven't gathered evidence. You're just assigning stuff to them based on pre-existing beliefs in your head. That's called prejudice.

It's really harmful, it's dehumanizing, it deprives the subjects of their rights, and justifies any sort of action against them. I can see why TJ is pissed-off.

You know, in a gneral way, you're probably close enough in your list of motives for looters, esp if you throw in 'profit-seeking' as well.....

I'm challenging the conflation of 'protestors and upset people' and 'looters,' however. Everyone isn't a looter; far from it.

Mob psychology is real, but a mob as an 'organism' is metaphor, not science. And mobs are ephemeral, and vary in their mood and behavior. Speaking of 'The Mob' in Ferguson is sure to be wrong. The first thing one must ask is 'which mob?'
