Currently my son has a Gamo presicion air rifle which he loves and got the hang of quite fast. Hope to be able to hunt for grouse and ptarmigan before the season ends. See how many head shots he can do with it.
I grew up hunting and a .270 will take down a caribou from a few hundred feet. though never shot a moose with it...I know some people who use the AR-15 for hunting and i have never seen the merits of calling a semi auto an assault rifle. it shoots one at a time. A assault rifle is fully automatic with a minimum of 3 shot bursts at the trigger pull. to the gaitling gun at what 6000 rounds minute?
Would you call a semi auto shotgun a assault shot gun? my dad hand one IIRC it was sweet.
well i said my piece and being the thread killer im sure no more will be said...maybe i should be called the assault threader?

Ya sure.

.38 snubbie is pretty much a personal protection/ concealed carry/ house gun. Also known as a "belly gun", it's not belly accurate for any distance but otherwise belly effective closer-in, the 5-shot so-called "Detective Special" is a particularly popular compact and useful variant. My pard inherited his mom's .38 purse gun, AFAIK she never shot a purse with it.

Besides your a bad mother fucker remember, you don't need a gun.

Thats why I said the above.
I used to have the .38 snub nose hammerless model but never really liked buying any 38 hand guns. Always bought 357mags or bigger. At least with the 357 you could still shoot 38s if you were trying to save money or a woos.
I would load my 44 & 357 mags to through flames out the barrels. At indoor ranges people would start packing up when I started shooting lol. They would have some crapy wadcutters or some store bought junk.

This is my old friend snubby. Been firing for well, close to forty years now. So I can hit what it is aimed at. As long as it is within fifteen to twenty feet. But over that out to about fifty so so. The magnums for me display to much recoil in a small semi lite weight pistol like this. I also like it loaded up with buck shot for snakes.
Get out over ten feet from someone and pull a gun you had better be in the right 1000%. No grey area on the situation.
The Bull Dog 44 is another sweet pistol.

The key is the ammunition and the materials used to reload. Make all of that prohibitively expensive and it doesn't matter what kind of gun you own, make, steal or whatever. You'll only be able to afford so much.
The guns are repairable and reusable. Ammunition? Not so much. Gun powder not at all.

An underground market would spring up immediately. Smokeless power and lead isn't all that difficult to make. The brass and primers would be more difficult, but I'm sure some Russians could fill that void.
I've shot all my life and find it rather relaxing; however, even I was somewhat perplexed when I saw a bunch of 22RFs that looked like assault weapons at the gun shop.

Good points! The Lapua is a damn fine special purpose round. The only problem is the cost per round and the need for a nice long range, say, 1000 meters. I'm partial to 308s like my old case denting HK91. Unfortunately, with the lack of decent ranges in San Diego, I'm now limited to my air guns at home and an occasional indoor pistol range.

Ya the barrel is far to short for mag loads and accuracy. 6" groups @ 25 feet will hit a body cavity is about all you get out of it.
Thats why I would only buy S&W in 6" & 8 3/8 barrels and some with scopes.
I did have a S&W 8 3/8, 22 Hornet. That was a rare gun crazy loud and had issues getting the brass out after firing. A 22 mag in the 8 3/8 barrel is a fun gun.

Yep, that horse is long-gone and the marketplace would blossom with product of varying quality regardless. For a decent autoloader the reliability lies in the chute mouth of the magazine and overall QC of the mag is everything whether it feeds consistently reliably, or not , the mag' is a terrible place to cut quality for cost .

Quality airguns for pleasure shooters are becoming an attractive and affordable pleasure shooting alternative, just as Part 103 trike/Rogallo- winged powered aircraft are for hobby fliers with shallow pockets.
My instructor, Mike Theke, in one of his Sky-Cycles. I've been up here solo  ;

I always liked the 243 as an all around caliber. Great for California hunting and doesn't wear you out at the range.
