I hooked up the NAD last night after spraying the volume knob with contact cleaner.
For once it is nice to find a thrift receiver with both channels.

Maybe it is me but I think I like my Maggie console pulls driven by pre-amps.
But I guess I need to listen a little more or change my speakers. The NAD stuff gets good hype on AK.

I think what I really want is a hassle free SS amp that sounds like a Fisher 400 lol

Adcom GF-535 first series, probably better overall than the Fisher. Works a treat with just a 20k- 50k level control between the source and it, no active preamp usually needed for CD & higher output phono stages but watch for DC offset from the source as the amp is DC-coupled.

thanks I will keep an eye out for one....

my best combination now is my Maggie 6v6 being driven by a Chinese Music Angel pre-amp with KEF speakers hooked up.......

I have heard those Sony 6060 amps sound like fishers too...or sound really good.

Prob'ly find a working '535 on the 'bay for ca $135-$150 shipped. There's four main reservoir elyti'caps in the PS ( 2 per channel, separated dual PS incl separate trafos) and 2 other smaller ones on each signal board, very simple sweet sounding amps designed by Nelson Pass for Adcom. Rated ca 60WPC, 80WPC is more like it. Defective examples typically have blown fuses and nothing else. Sonically IMO the most/best amp a Benji will get you.

Pio, you seem to know your way around a GFA amp--can I get you to take a peek at the GFA-5300 thread here, on AK? http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=500366

Are you saying this amp sort of sounds like an old Fisher 400?
Just curious...I have heard how a Fisher sounds....
it would be cool to have a 100$ amp do that....

Cheap enuff, I'll buy it if it doesn't work out. It'll definitely have a better bottom end than the Fisher.

Mebbe more like a new 400 without the soft clipping and 2nd order harmonics.

FWIW, I have a Battradio-built stereo P/P 6L6 Baldwin organ amp here with a a pair of Fisher OPTs backed up by the gi-normous Baldwin PS that I'm playing with.
The "Fishwin" with with a quad of $6 Russky 6L6s and another with a quad of 5881s and capacitor heat shield ;

The smaller amp behind it is a sweet Silvertone P/P 6BQ5 console amp.
