Your CR-3020 Rob is one of the most "famous" MUST HAVE jewels amongst us vintage audio gear fans, as you know!

And this precious woodcase - great!!!

The cassette is a Yamaha K-1000, underneath is a Yamaha CD-755 CDP,to the right of the 3020 is a Teac X-1000R RTR, there is a Yamaha PX-2 TT and two more RTRs. Speakers are Yamaha NS-690s Mk1

I will keep a look out for that cassette deck....
Sometimes I have been even tempted to buy the two-well decks Yamaha made when I see them in the thrifts...the build quality looks good on all of their stuff.

I actualy have three K-1000s the one in the Playroom system, one beside me hooked to the PC for converting cassettes to CD and a black faced one in the bedroom system. Another deck that was TOTL in the CRn40 series is the K-850 and I have one on the shop system.

Oh the two other RTRs are a Teac 1230 (gift) and a Pioneer RT-707 that I rebuilt and lapped the heads for to get rid of the grooves, fortunately they had not worn too far. It was built from two RT-707s so I have a spare set of heads.

Why would a pre-amp only have one channel but the other one comes in full bore say after a minute of operation.....and stays on for the rest of the time? Cold solder joint near an output jack? happens on all sources.

I do think the 6BQ5 amps (well my 197 sep) are a bit sweeter on sound...to me the 6V6 are more of a beefier output but nice nonetheless.

Hmmmmm..........Could be. Could be a weak connection anywhere, really. Could even be a dirty contact in your volume or balance pots or a switch. Have you tried Deoxing them yet?
