REM - Automatic for the People
I'm lukewarm about some of REM's music, but not this one. I think it's a great album.

I always thought Fables Of The Reconstruction and Life's Rich Pageant were really great....I bought both of those back in the early-mid 80s.

If listen to To The One I Love and listen to the Decembrist album The King Is Dead you will hear the basic cords being laid down...not surprising considering the special guest guitarist.

Indeed. There are some REM'ish tunes on The King is Dead and Peter Buck's influence is clear. The King is Dead might be my favorite Decemberists album. Some of the earlier stuff, while good, is a bit pretentious with its folk story/sea shanty vibe.
