Subs in my listening rig is a no no for me (I want speakers that can do it) but that is just for me personally. I know many use them.

I guess the Ti mids are pretty much gone with the wind. I'm just not enough of a crank to get into the better crossovers, or modding the woofers and/or the passives. I like fixing things, not working on things.
Almost bought some Chorus II's, other than I was going to have to go to St. Louis to get them. Wound up with some Hornshoppes, thus the sub. Also added some FT-17 super tweets...in a way a superior setup compared to the Klipsch. Didn't have the expansive sound, but the mids were to die for.
Only bought the Quartets because they were pretty much pristine and going for $350 30 miles away. Had some KG-4's before and they were pretty good, but not in the same category as the Quartets.
After I finally decided to use tone controls, I'm pretty much satisfied. I'm using and old Dynaco Pat-5 for a pre, modified to supposedly an Omegastar by Van Alistine, bought from a fellow on Audiogon who went through it adding Blackgates, upgraded pots, resistors...in other words even further tricked out. It's a definite improvement over the C-1, and even with the tone controls on it sounds pretty good.
Compared to the days when I was running a Sansui 6060 pushing Kenwood KL888Z's, well, there is no comparison.
I gave the Kenwoods to a buddy of mine to put in his hunting lodge...pushed them with a Sansui 771. The system sounds like it's packed full of mud. The only thing worse is his Bose 501's I refoamed for him, and he has in his shop. Pushes them with a newer Sherwood receiver...that system sounds like it's packed full of shit.

Klipsch has stopped making the Ti mid phrams....say it ain't so....they are the last step to these Forte's.
I do enjoy working on stuff. Keeps me out of trouble. I'd prolly be here less if I would stop being so lazy and get to work on stuff. Will be finishing up a Maggie 9903 for a fellow member on the sister site tomorrow. I replace and mod everything under the hood along with adding a fused iec receptacle, 5 way binding posts, rca's and a power switch (some time lighted sometimes a pilot light depending on what folks want. I dis like doing the chassis cutting but over all I find it enjoyable and do it for fun for myself and the benefit of folks getting into tubes.
win/win!

I guess we all have things others aren't into (I do not have hospital receptacles in my house). I have bought better cables (not those super expensive ones but more pricey than I ever thought I'd spend) and could hear a difference. I prolly fooled myself but what the hell, it put a smile on my face.
Having a small background in audio engineering it just made sense as studios were not pulling out the monster cables and live we never used them either. I just correlated this into "maybe it would help at home also"
Again, as you all know, this was my personal thoughts and findings. YMMV
I've been pretty good about avoiding this subject for years now. I'd prefer to talk the merits of speaker recapping

Can't say I'm really into these things, they're just my job. Actually, consider my long winded discourse as a public service.
Everyone worries about the "hot" wire, but never takes into consideration that it all feeds to ground. A bad ground will ruin more things or kill you quicker, because everyone thinks they're not hot.
In a properly grounded circuit, they're not. In an improperly grounded circuit, if you manage to ground yourself and touch the grounding wire, you will become the conductor...and it will cook you like a big chicken.
This I know for a fact. And you will not be able to turn loose of a 120V device which is suffering from a ground fault...I have personal experience in this matter.
Anyway, watch out for them grounds, fellers.
BTW, I will spring for a set of RCA cables so long as they don't cost more than 15-20 bucks. Bad thing is, a lot of them have lousy ends which don't make a good connection. Hate to say it, but the cheap ones they used to give you made a better connection.

Oh yes, my tech schooling years ago and live sound training taught me this.
And you are correct, that 220 will knock you on yer but but that 120 tends to just hold you. need a friend with something non conductive to give ya a shove
(btw, I don't charge for the work done on the tube amps. I'd not feel right doing that as I'm no pro. I do recoup the price of parts though)
