'Voters oust Michigan clerk who doubts election results'

"ADAMS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Voters in one of Michigan's most conservative counties have ousted a small-town clerk accused of improperly handling voting equipment after casting doubt on President Joe Biden’s election victory.

Stephanie Scott lost Tuesday's recall election in Hillsdale County’s Adams Township to Suzy Roberts, who got 406 votes to Scott's 214, according to unofficial results reported by the county clerk’s office.

Roberts, a Republican who identifies as an independent, filed as non-party-affiliated in the recall election because Michigan law does not allow for challengers to file under the same political party, the Hillsdale Daily News reported previously.

Scott had run unopposed as a first-time Republican candidate when she was chosen in the November 2020 election to handle the voting in Adams Township, a reliably Republican community where the ticket of Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence received nearly 76% of the vote that year.

But she joined a crew of GOP elections officials around the nation who have questioned the accuracy of U.S. voting systems. Scott is among a number of elections officials around the country accused of mishandling voting equipment in their zeal to uncover fraud.

Before Tuesday’s recall election against Scott, her challenger said that “the lying has to stop.”

“Somehow, nationwide, we have to make lying wrong,” said Roberts, 69. “If you got caught in the lie there was a feeling of shame. It has to be wrong again.”"

They sang, stayed put and got arrested in ‘the freest state’

TALLAHASSEE — They call themselves the “Florida 14.”

Fourteen people were arrested Wednesday and charged with trespassing. Their crime: Peacefully protesting outside Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office.

This was a gross overreaction by law enforcement to an animated group of young people with healthy lungs who sang civil rights songs and voiced frustration over the frightening direction this state is taking.

They spoke for millions. For that, they were herded onto a bus, booked, charged with misdemeanors and barred from the Capitol for a year.

Yet for similar infractions, no one got arrested before. So much for First Amendment in the Free State of Florida.

Ten years ago, a similar group from the Dream Defenders group occupied the Capitol for 31 straight days after the shooting death of Trayvon Martin and his killer’s acquittal. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement wisely used restraint. Nobody was arrested.

In 2000, two Black legislators, Kendrick Meek and Tony Hill, occupied the lieutenant governor’s office overnight and refused to leave until they met with Gov. Jeb Bush over his affirmative action policies. A publicity stunt? Sure, but they had a purpose. I was there. Nobody was arrested.

I think DeSantis is feeling the heat.

Recall that Floriduh had enacted one of the toughest anti protest law (anti-DeSantis) but this was declared unconstitutional. But they still enforce it to a somewhat diluted degree. They even tried to ban the Democratic party on a technicality.

I once saw a blurb that China could win a war with us without firing a shot. All they need do is surrender a million people a day. Pretty soon we'd give up and beg them to stop.
What's needed in FL is an uprising. Mass protests leading to mass arrests and then and his next Democratic gubernatorial opponent can say Ron is openly fascist for pushing a declared unconstitutional law, among other things.
