A very good opinion piece and I am still a fan of Electric Vehicles and looking to buy a Lucid sedan soon (used or demo, cannot afford a new one).

Why Americans Can’t Buy the World’s Best Electric Car

Quote:
By Michael Dunne

Mr. Dunne, a former General Motors executive, is an industry consultant who worked in China’s auto sector for more than two decades.
Quote:
The success of BYD and several other upstart Chinese car brands should be a warning for U.S. auto manufacturing and our industrial sector as a whole. We need the courage to recognize how badly we are falling behind, shake off complacency and adopt an urgent government-led effort — think of a Manhattan Project but for cars — to restore U.S. competitiveness.

From last week.

Tesla was forced to reimburse Full Self-Driving in arbitration after failing to deliver

Quote:
Tesla has been forced to reimburse a customer’s Full Self-Driving package after an arbitrator determined that the automaker failed to deliver it.
And people are still continuing to invest in Tesla betting on their Robotaxis.
Uber drivers are yukking it up.

Cybertruck Sales Are Dead in the Water
https://futurism.com/cybertruck-sales-dead-water

Quote:
In total, Tesla has sold a measly 10,712 Cybertrucks this year, meaning it's nowhere near matching the 39,900 units it delivered in 2024. And it's not even in the same hemisphere as Musk's characteristically ambitious prediction that the automaker would somehow sell up to half a million of the EV trucks per year.

^^ Here is their last hope (gasp).

Tesla Cybertruck cleared for Australian launch as controversial electric Ram 1500 and Toyota Tundra rival nears

I just do not see Australians arming up to a vehicle which has been a total disaster here in the US.

https://www.carsguide.com.au/car-new...tric-ute-brandTesla's billion-dollar mistake: Unbelievable losses skyrocket as a new electric ute brand Slate shows the EV giant how it's done

Quote:
Americans, it would seem, do want an electric pick-up truck, they just don't want the stainless steel-shelled Tesla Cybertruck.
New reports out of the USA suggest Tesla is sitting on an incredible US$800m (approx $1.2b) inventory of unsold Cybertrucks as sales slow to a trickle in the USA.
And adding insult to Tesla's very expensive injury is the seemingly runaway success of a new rival, with the Jeff Bezos-backed Slate wracking up a reported 100,000 deposits for its new cut-price electric ute.
To make matters worse for Musk, Bezos owned Zook robotaxi began production recently in Hayward, CA which is just a few miles (15?) north on 880 from Tesla's Fremont plant, but the Cybertrucks are built in Austin, TX.

"Tesla’s troubles continued Wednesday as the company reported a double-digit drop in adjusted earnings for the second quarter, a fall that followed a record sales drop in the same period.

The company’s adjusted net income, the measure most closely followed on Wall Street, fell $419 million from one year ago to $1.4 billion. That’s a 23% drop – outpacing the sales decline of 13.5% over the same period." CNN
