If these undocumented people (they are no immigrants, not yet anyway) want to protest waving Mexican and Guatemalan flags, I find it hard to sympathize with them. And then go on to destroy property including five Waymo vehicles is unforgivable setting off toxic fumes!
Peaceful protests get sympathy and empathy, destruction of property brings in the law.
Agree, DJT calling in the NG was unwarranted but this was also well anticipated.

How do you know that the people waving Mexican and Guatemalan flags are undocumented?
How do you know that people who destroyed vehicles and property were the same people waving the flags?

I do not know which is why I began with "If these undocumented want to protest......". But having lived in California for almost 40 years, I am willing to bet that they are.
The point I am really try to make is that the optics are terrible for people like me who do support their rights.

Trump is asking the Supreme Court to neutralize the Convention Against Torture. This is a tough read for me to follow but as I see it, they are hoping to send immigrants (assume illegal) to other countries to be tortured since they claim they have found a loophole in the following law.
Quote:

Federal law states that the United States shall not “expel, extradite, or otherwise effect the involuntary return of any person to a country in which there are substantial grounds for believing the person would be in danger of being subjected to torture.” This law implements a treaty, known as the Convention Against Torture, which the United States ratified more than three decades ago.

I agree. The optics of this must be managed carefully to turn public sentiment against tRUMP. Instead of reacting violently to the cops and NG a better tactic would be to just sit/lie down in place. The optics of police and NG assaulting peaceful protesters would be hard to spin. That might even be enough violence for the media to cover it.

And now there is looting and like it or not, the administration is winning this war with the public while Newsom and Bass are flailing and failing miserably. And this picture is more than disturbing especially if an argument is made that we are on the side of lawbreakers.

No justice, no peace. People mistreated like the brown folks Miller hates are very likely to strike back. And you don't know who lit up those cars anyway. I remember the video of the man in the black tactical outfit who started the looting in St. Louis. He was not from the hood!

One problem is there are no leader(s). The protesters in the streets have become a mob. A mob doesn't think, it reacts. Another problem is the media. Until the police tried to shut down the protest the media wouldn't show that. They were waiting for violence to break out to roll the cameras. Peaceful protests are so boring.
We'll see what coverage the nationwide No Kings protests get this weekend.

Agreed.
Trump got elected in part because the immigrants issue and those rioting (note not everybody is doing so) are playing right into his hands.

I swear I am not making this up. Tonight Trump will go to the Kennedy Center to see “Les Miserables,” a play about a mass uprising against a tyrannical king. I hereby retire from satire.
