Woke... What does it mean?

A new member asked if they could use woke on this site. Bob said yes, I mentioned, paraphrased "how is it a bad thing". A few others responded. The person asking the question went into anti-woke mode. Bob asked the discussion move to the forum.

So here it is.

How is me, a middle aged white man, being WOKE a bad thing?

How is WOKE as a bad thing not just a term used to stir up the gullible MAGA red hatters?

It was only in 2017 that the word “woke” was aded to the Oxford English Dictionary, and was defined as “being ‘aware’ or ‘well-informed’ in a political or cultural sense”.

It evolved into an all-encompassing term to describe leftist political ideology, used as a “shorthand for people on the left” to signal progressiveness, but weaponised by those on the right as a “sneering, jeering dismissive term” to denigrate those who did not agree with their beliefs, said Mr Thorne.

Like phrases before it - such as “politically correct”, “social justice warrior” and “cancel culture” - “woke” has become a toxicised term used by alt-right and politically conservative groups to insult people on the left.

So in a precise use of this word, a person who is not woke is dumb, ignorant and ill informed. Fits perfectly to those on the alt right who still believe that a certain crook actually won in the last election cycle. So dumb in fact that they are going to jail for mounting an insurrection.

"Woke" has morphed from being a phrase used in the black community to mean socially aware to now being a catch-all phrase used by the right to describe anything they don't like or understand.

I have had it explained a few times by users of the term. The best I can figure it from the convoluted confusing contradictory explanations.
They are describing politically correctness maybe?

Any way the party so worried about this seems to be the very one implementing my way or the highway. Rewriting or overlooking history for starters.

A Woke person = Socially understanding and accepting of all people, which typically is a progressive liberal. So in the alt-right world, woke is used pejoratively to insult liberals. This from a group of people who are mostly dumb and ignorant who cannot afford a pot to piss in. About time word Magat was adopted into the English language to denote an idiot and a live one just landed on this forum.
