This was acts of treason and insurrection plain and simple. Thinking that somehow because this is the United States will prevent any group from succeeding is folly. It is scary that in this country a simple 51% of the vote in the electoral collage can change it from a democracy to a dictatorship.
If you feel the need to, think of what is gonna happen once the cult seizes power. They will be out for blood, retribution, payback. Also will use the power now in control of to suppress eliminate free speech and all opposition. Concentrating power so fast that there will no time to stop it from happening. Taking weapons away from all they choose, no second for non cult members....
There is you connection to the Nazi's!

You think a Homeland Security / Military clampdown would somehow preserve our Democracy ?
President Trump would have been in charge of that, too, on January 6th.
Regarding the Nazis, I was referring to the Tavern Brawl of the Brownshirts, and the burning of the Reichstag. The Nazis were a dominate party, but they used the burning of the Reichstag to assert power by force.
It's a loose example, but you have to note the similarities.

To think the Reich-Wing is just going to stop their takeover attempt and play nice of their own volition is just wishful thinking.

I questioned how an intelligent educated populace could willingly follow an autocratic demagogue narcissist like Adolph Hitler, and here we are repeating history complete with armed Stormtroops.
Is 40-odd % of the country that gullibly stupidly ignorant of history, or do they just want a king, their king?

40% is how I'd describe it to, based on people I interact with in the real world.
And, as I mentioned on several threads, it's the devil's world (IMHO).
Remember the so-called Zombie Apocalypse that Homeland Security started preparing for after the World Trade Center collapsed.
The Feds started to hoard all the gun ammunition produced in the USA for a couple of years (okay that one should be the conspiracy forum, no evidence for it).
People panicked, gun production soared. It's snowballed from there.
We all laughed about a pending Zombie Apocalypse. The Reich-Wingers prepped for it. They did not know they were going to be the Zombies. They still haven't figured it out.
Behold, the Prince of the Power of the Air. I'm not preaching, just stating my my POV.

I don't doubt the 2nd amendment/ gun nut phenom was about an armed insurrection takeover all along, waiting for the right time and the right demagogue to coalesce into a might-makes-right movement. His selection, as incredible as it may seem, is a symptom of long festering grievances of a loss of "our way of life", a euphemism if there ever was one.

You think being soft on this crime is OK? Truth is we were to soft on the south after the civil war. Allowing the myths of the war to fester since then. Much like now in the thinking their better angels will prevail. When in reality all being nice does is make the government look weak in their eyes.
They only respect power, fear is what they are feeding on. Time for them to know real fear not some made up one fed to them.

Regarding this mythical fear, it looks like you're assuming the Reichwingers identify as being conservative Christians (from the South) maybe.
And they have a fear of the Lord, or going to Hell when they die ? They think they're imposing the will of God by their actions ?
I'm not sure I can accept all that stereotyping. I haven't seen the Proud Boys doing any religious preaching.

The so called conservative Christians consider trump as their messiah, so it is as spiritual as it is political. A crook in charge of the central bank in financial terms, and trump is a crook.

The fears I'm talking about is "so************************ts" "liberals "People of color Different sexual id's and orientations science educated education other religions and nationalities ect....
I watch FOX OAN and the other right channels and see the hate and mistrust spoon fed to the viewers. Here in my county the GOP candidate for clerk platform is just one, election integrity. There was no problems in the last election reported BTW.
I have lived close to 70 years and own many a pistol. Have a permit to carry for longer then can remember. Have been in some sticky situations over the years. Still can count as few the number of times one was strapped to my side. They were mostly when outdoors in deep woods and were for bear coyote snake protection not human.
