They are indeed scabs and erected specifically for that reason by Lost Causers during the Jim Crow and civil rights eras. For the record, I'm a Civil War buff and have a great, great ... Grandfather who was a Confederate general (and a Union Army private who was with Grant at Appomattox Court House). I do have compassion, however, for my fellow citizens who bristle at rednecks rubbing their Civil War revisionism in their faces. In any event, it was the Charlottesville City Council's business to deal with their statue as they chose. It's no business of mine, nor of a Neo-Nazi from Maumee, Ohio.
