Here you have two candidates, Trump and Sanders, with hugely enthusiastic followings. The difference is that mainline Republicans hate and fear Trump, while the Democratic establishment's only real reservation about Sanders is that they believe he can't win. They don't dread a Sanders presidency, just a Sanders candidacy.
But, in our three-way race of Trump, Sanders and Bloomberg, nobody's going to desert Bernie for either one of these guys but he might just peel off a little of Trump's support. Here's why.
The number of issues they have in common is maybe a little surprising. Trump says China and Mexico are "winning" and Bernie says that sending our jobs overseas and trade deals like NAFTA, CAFTA, TPP and TTIP are killing the middle class. Both candidates say they want to protect Social Security and Medicare and both have reservations, though different ones, about the PPACA. Trump claims to be pro 2nd Amendment and Bernie's record on gun control has been used against him by other Democrats.
The list goes on.
No, the racists, Islamophobes, nativists and just plain morons won't desert Trump but they probably number fewer than the people who think a "successful businessman" is what we need to be "great again".
And, given the choice between billionaires, the Republican establishment could easily break for Bloomberg. Of course, they would never vote for Bernie but, given the choice of voting for Bernie or seeing a Trump presidency, old line Democrats would have to vote for the "soci@list".

In your scenario wouldn't most independents, other than Trump zombies, lean towards Bloomberg? In addition, many Democrats might just prefer Bloomberg over Bernie. Clinton Democrats for instance. In addition, having served as mayor of NYC for three consecutive terms would in many ways make him the most qualified candidate. His chivalry would also garner him votes.
