Zeke, they got accepted into med scool and into law school while they were taking hits on their bongs and power hitters. Smoking weed has little bearing on one's ability to achieve and become a success story. Motivation, dedication, application, and support are the harbingers of success in college.

Brown's dad mistakenly told me Ranken, rather than Vatterot, but they both have had marked success getting people through their training pipeline.

As far as black kids not being able to cut the academic mustard in college, my little tutor group at Nuclear Power School included a kid from Crenshaw CA, a kid from Wellston high in at. Louis, and a kid from Newark, nj. All three of them passed Rickover's naval nuclear power school with over 2.8 GPAs. NNPS was, and still is, the hardest military academic school, as the navy to MIT's first two years of their bachelor of science nuclear engineering program and condensed the time to six months.

Just like smoking weed, just like being born black, just like being educated in a totally underachieving environment, kids are quite capable of becoming much more than most are willing to credit. I have seen far too many people succeed from humble to horrible circumstances to ever say it will be impossible.

On the other hand, you forecast defeat before the start has even happened. You are of little faith.

Your second question is very interesting, but stupid. I've notice that a number of folk here love their make it personal word battles, which in real life often result in a physical exchange. But we're just exchanging words here, although in and of themselves words can hurt.

In the day, wWellston was worse than Normandy. Normandy is half a mile from wWellston, which was so bad it was closed so students could transfer to Normandy. Your lack of local knowledge is showing.

If you want to talk about stats and college dropouts and failure...

Bill Gates and steve jobs were both dropouts. Thomas Edison. Plenty of success stories were first failures. One of the keys to success is being able to not be afraid to fail.
