You got that right. I've been through that garbage twice now, and have yet to see ANYTHING good come of it. If you want to see an excellent example of people doggedly enforcing something that doesn't work in order to protect the careers they've built around it------Six Sigma is it.

Have ya had the pleasure of adding the LEAN program to that Six Sigma?

Oh, yes. "Zero" inventory, so that every little glitch in the system is an utter disaster that runs up obscene losses. It screws us nearly every day. I'd like to find the clown that foisted that shit upon us and knock all of his teeth out.
Regards,
Dave

The Toyota Production System (TPS) is an integrated socio-technical system, developed by Toyota...
Sociotechnical systems pertains to theory regarding the social aspects of people and society and technical aspects of organizational structure and processes...
Just In Time (JIT) Actually it works pretty well until a Union goes and screws it up by going out on strike

How well does JIT work when an engineer goes and screws it up by releasing bad parts? The shit flies both ways.
Now compare how often engineers release bad parts, which is probably daily, to how often unions go on strike. Anymore the latter is zero because they gave up strikes in their collective bargaining agreement. Even if they didn't, they still only went on strike once a decade or so.
Having said all that, I am still a fan JIT. When an engineer released a bad part prior to JIT there were often semi loads of parts that needed to be scrapped or reworked. With JIT problems can be caught and fixed before they become enormous.
I'm not a big fan of six sigma, however.
