When a candidate is so contorted, the question is still apt: Is such a candidate a Democrat or Republican?

Democrats should be careful. They might win an election only to find that they cannot implement policies close to their heart.
The Dems need to win both houses in 2018, keep them in 2020 and take back the presidency to implement any heartfelt programs. Thanks to Trump this probably will happen unless the Dems somehow screw it up.

FWIW, I don't see the aptness of your question except in a litmus test framework and this either/or us/them choice is at the heart of the matter.
