Now, who can think of a way to remove a defiant student who is clamped onto a desk, without risking major injury, assuming there's a proper need to do so? The main problem is breaking a grip on desk parts without risking breaking fingers or something. My idea: from behind, lightly place a hand over the student's face. The instinct is to instantly grab at such a hand. So the death-grip-on-the-desk bit is over, and student's hands can be grabbed and cuffed.
