Us stoopid hillbillies down here in Bugtussell still greet old friends by looking them up and down, smiling, and saying "The things you see when you ain't got a gun!"

But everybody's got a gun, and threatening to shoot one another is always good for a laugh, so long as everybody's smiling.

I wouldn't read too much into it.
