So I wasn't that familiar with Brandi Carlisle before the show last night - we went with some friends who wanted to see her. She's a little hard to pigeonhole. Some of her stuff clearly has a country/bluegrass flavor, but she can rock when she want's to. She has a tremendous stage presence; her rapport with the crowd was genuine.

Versatility is the best word. She can rock, but she and the band did one number entirely acoustic - no amplification at all except her substantial set of pipes. She played the piano, several acoustic guitars and the electric guitar. Her band included a fiddle/mandolin player, cellist/pianist, guitarist, acoustic/electric bassist and very proficient drummer. Most of her material is original, but she did a few covers; and those are where her versatility showed through. Late in her first set she did an energetic cover of "Bohemian Rhapsody", she started her encore with the Beatles' "Oh! Darling," and finished with the gospel "His Eye is on the Sparrow."

It's always nice to be exposed to some new music, and there's nothing like live music.

Regards,

D-Ray
