The world has moved on.

Stolen from King's Dark Tower.

But fitting. Good bad or indifferent, Trump is putting the final nail in the post WW2 era. Pax Americana is dead. The world I was born into is gone.

Strange it took a populist so-called rightie to do it when so much of it fit the lefts stated boogymen (even though so much of it was set up by the Dems).

Pax Americana was mostly born from the Bretton Woods agreements. Bretton Woods formalized an economic system including the IMF, World Bank, the US dollar as the reserve currency, among other things.

It was also more informally an agreement (simplified version) between largely the US and the rest of the Free World (or anyone who wanted in) that, in exchange for the US controlling policy towards the USSR, the US would both guarantee open world shipping lanes and give open access to the US market.

So, 1) International banking with the US at the head. 2) US as World Police. 3) Globalization.

This has remained bipartisan US policy up until recently.

By almost any measure, it was a stunning success. And in more than just confronting the communist threat or another depression. Looking back these many decades later, what hasn't improved worldwide?

That is over. Started softly by Obama really, though Trump V1 and Biden, and now being sledgehammered by Trump V2.

I suspect we'll miss most of it.

It suits us more historically though. We've always been strongly isolationist.

Pete
