Yet from the article cited:

This challenge is longstanding :More than 40% of households were not able to afford what they needed almost every year from 2014 to 2024, according to the report, except for in 2021 and 2022. During those years Americans' bank accounts were boosted by federal stimulus checks and other forms of government aid meant to help with COVID-19 pandemic recovery.

End of QUOTE from article.

A barrel of oil is now in the low 90; not in the screaming 120 and above as was often predicted. The average pump price of gas is subsiding in the lower 4 dollar range.

All in all moderate early reprocussions from such an audacious attempt to rein in China's massive overcapacity and its efforts to squeeze the petro dollar.

BTW an important person in the EU, one K. Kallas has referred to China's Overcapacity as Cancer.

Trump has more guts than others before him.

The trade has two major implications:
1) The huge discount translates to a big multiplier in China's Overcapacity.
2) The trade occurs without use of the petro dollar and therefore is an incipient threat to what underpins the USA system.
I expected gas prices to go up. It's the cost of cleaning up the Middle east.

And trump's timing should be noted. The price of gas now is not what will affect mid-term elections. Rather, the price of gas in the month before the election is what will matter. I'm just enjoying watching this play out, and seeing the end in sight for this 47 year war. Finally, a leader who is, well, a leader. Willing to make the tough decisions and realize that It is never wise, in a dangerous world, to elect a "leader" with the attributes of Mr. Rogers.

Being nice often just gets you killed.

I've felt that way for a number of years. I was just talking to a couple of guys yesterday about not wanting to be a young man entering the job market today. But I don't blame it on trump. I blame it on decades of poor decisions by politicians that just wanted to stay in office, and voters that kept electing such politicians. And this is regarding ALL countries. Not just the US.

Since the end of WWII we've been borrowing from the future to fuel growth and an amazing lifestyle. My four words to the young people entering the job market: Welcome to the future.

It gives me no pleasure to say that. I have six kids, seven grandkids and one great grandchild. The only thing that gives me peace about their future is knowing that every generation has their cross to bear. They are more prepared, psychologically, than I would be. But it's going to be very hard for most of them.

But I see life as a "boot camp" anyway. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger. I've learned that from personal experience.

Tell that to John McCain. Cadet Bone Spurs has no guts whatsoever.

I was too young for the Vietnam disaster, but served eight years in the Navy afterward. You?

Trump apologists are sickening.

Economist Mark Zandi says Trump has a week to strike Iran deal before US faces a 'real problem'
https://finance.yahoo.com/economy/ar...142531554.html

Quote:
Mark Zandi thinks Trump has about a week to strike an Iran deal before the US has bigger problems.

Absent a peace deal, oil prices could soar again, triggering a US recession, he said.

Other forecasters have warned that it won't be long before economic damage from the war is more visible.
Better stop f'ing around, Donny!

Trump's Cotton Bailout Is Another Sign His Tariffs Aren't Working
The Great American Cotton Plan will shell out millions in taxpayer funds, continuing the Trump administration’s pattern of paying off industries harmed by the president’s economic policies.

I wonder where the money is coming from to pay for all his spending. To then remember the Republicans are willing to bankrupt this country in order to get rid of SS Medicare ....... you know all the programs that they never like one bit since day one.
