1980s: Meeting in Palm Beach

Trump has said that he and Epstein became friends in the late 1980s. The two were neighbors in affluent Palm Beach, Florida — Trump bought his Mar-a-Lago estate there in 1985, initially using it as a residence before its conversion to a country club a decade later — and moved in the same social circles. Often spotted together at high-profile gatherings of the rich and powerful, Epstein and Trump seemed quite close at the time, according to Jack O’Donnell, an executive at Trump Plaza and Casino during this period. “In my mind, [Epstein] was his best friend, you know, [throughout] the time I was there for four years,” O’Donnell told CNN in 2025. He further claimed that Epstein and Trump once illegally brought underage girls into Trump’s Atlantic City casino, where they often spent time together.

In 2017, Epstein spoke to author Michael Wolff about being Trump’s “closest friend.” In the taped interview, published in 2024, he claimed that Trump had first slept with Melania on his private plane. Although Epstein described Trump as charismatic, he was critical of his performance as president and said he was a serial adulterer. “He’s a horrible human being,” Epstein said. “He does nasty things to his best friends, best friends’ wives, anyone who he first tries to gain their trust and uses it to do bad things to them.” He also claimed that Trump was “functionally illiterate.”

And now this and with all things Trump, I will wait till this actually happens. We all know that he will say one thing publicly and then countermand it privately through his Gestapo and henchmen.

"We have nothing to hide"? He will redact his name from the entire stack of files!
And if this actually happens, expect MTG to take a victory lap in DC.

As of this morning, even Johnson is claiming to support the Massie & Khanna bill to release Epstein files and this a total reversal having blocked passage of this bill for so long. I trust him less than I trust Trump but the GOP is feeling the heat from their MAGA wing. Coincidentally or not, MBS visiting his buddy DJT at the WH and could help obscure GOP fallout.

The back-and-forth battle over releasing the files has certainly driven some Republicans into contortions — not least of whom is Speaker Mike Johnson.

He told reporters Tuesday that he plans to vote for the bill authored by Reps. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) even as he stood by his longtime claim that it’s “recklessly flawed” because it does not sufficiently protect victims and whistleblowers in his view. He told GOP members in a private conference meeting earlier that morning to vote their “conscience,” according to four people in the room granted anonymity to describe the private meeting.

“I think it could be a near-unanimous vote,” Johnson said.
