Our economy is the envy of the world, as has been pointed out several times. Never been better. Unfortunately, it has, over the past couple of decades, favored college grads and professionals - not the labor union machinists and grocery clerks, who used to be Dem voters. I hope the Dems will learn and adapt very soon, hopefully by midterms, though I think Donny's tariffs will be so painful by then that the Trump voters will very much regret voting for the ass.

I've never been a fan of Biden's student debt relief plan - the college educated folks need to fend for themselves, IMO. Maybe some basic financial training in HS would have been helpful, as it seems too many college grads got themselves in a real bind, but I fail to see why the feds should bail them out (I paid my own way through college, FWIW).

Tariff is the major tool left regardless of which party is in power.

Without tariffs the Chinese with their massive over capacity would put the industries of Europe and America out of work.

Janet Yellen, to her credit, has been saying that loud and clear.

2002 United States steel tariff
https://www.wikiwand.com/en/articles...s_steel_tariff

Quote:
On March 5, 2002, U.S. President George W. Bush placed tariffs on imported steel. The tariffs took effect March 20 and were lifted by Bush on December 4, 2003. Research shows that "the costs of the Safeguard Measures [steel tariffs] outweighed their benefits in terms of aggregate GDP and employment".

This is the most insightful synopsis of the current political environment I've yet to read here on PC.

I'll take the hit on that. As far as economic performance goes, Biden's was classically great by all measures, which blinded me to the fact that millions who know nothing of the measures judge it by how much money they have left when they leave the grocery.

A mistake the Biden adminstration should have immediately fixed would be have been restoring the SALT deductions for homeowners...now that is being touted as a new possible Trump move. It may have brought out more Democratic homeowners to vote for Harris since millions of Democrats sat out the election.

It feels good that Elon Musk was not born in the United States of America - you know what I mean?
