I think there is utility there.
Logical consistency helps discern someone's real point.
Example: "Juries and 'the government' cannot be trusted in deciding these matters of life and death."
If that same person is pro-death penalty, then you know they are capricious thinkers and you can know what to expect from them elsewise.
Trump has been convicted of 34 felonies. Can't trust that verdict, but let's kill that guy in Texas.
