Conspiracy theory. *L*
Thing about peaceful protests is that they are peaceful - until they're not.

I was on the street with a large crowd at a Newt Gingrich appearance at a hotel in downtown Seattle in the 90's. There were hundreds, if not thousands there. We were there to support him. But there was a problem. Another large crowd, many of whom had been bussed in, were there to protest and they were a surley lot.

They were screaming insults at us and, as it appeared to me, trolling us to act out. There was a line between the crowds that was no more than 15 or 20 feet wide that had a sparse line of cops and a rope. I walked down my side of the line imploring people to not respond in like kind. Finally, I met a guy on my side that had a "pocket trumpet". It was a full trumpet but only about 10 inches long. I got him to start playing the melody to the old protest song, "All we are saying, is give Peace a chance". Then I got a few of us near him to start singing, only replace "peace" with "newt". We kept repeating it and eventually the whole crowd (on our side) was singing it.

The whole thing was completely neutralized.

Maybe later I'll show you the point in the Seattle speech Hillary gave at Westlake park to promote her government health care plan and where she looked right at me when I yelled, "Thanks, mom!"

I've been at this a while.

It's fun to be the hero of your own story.

Not a hero. Just needed to do what needed to be done.

Then there was the time my wife and I are enjoying a chinese pastry in Seattle's international district during a bike ride. Suddenly a kid looking to be in 9th grade comes running around a corner as fast as he can. Then a group of about 15 more come right behind. They were about a block away and we could see them across a vacant lot. The other kids caught up and started beating the living chit out of him. I ran up and started pulling them off as fast as I could. A cab driver stopped and started doing the same thing. They relented, but the kid was a bloody mess. Though there were a lot of people around, he and I are the only ones that did anything. And I was not a "hero". I simply did what needed to be done. I had a fairly long talk with a couple of the guys that were doing the beating. I'll not get into what it was about other than to say it was amicable.

And then there was the time in downtown Seattle during the first Iraq war where I was near the front of the crowd. I was against the war, but once it started I wanted to see the nation in solid support to get the danged thing over with and not see another Vietnam.

We came to a corner and there were some young people holding up their fingers in the peace sign. I stuck my hand up high with the same "V" and yelled "victory". The whole crowd started doing it and the kids sheepishly put their hands down.

To quote Ecclesiastes (later put into a Byrds song), There is a time for peace and there is a time for war. Children just don't get this. They think a jew can just be nice to Hitler. Maybe bring him a nice brisket, and Hitler will say, "Gee, I'm sorry. I was really unreasonable and have seen the error of my ways."

Sadly, that only happens in movies. That's why I like "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington", but I understand that unlike the end of that movie, in the real world, Schiff will not say, "we just made this phone call stuff up and apologize." Nope. In the real world Schiff is comically "funeral marching" articles of impeachment down the hall and the adults have to slap him down.

But I digress.

So the ones (the majority of) that don't spin up into riots haven't anything to do with Marxist revolution.

Rickey's asking about race riots. Ferguson was the last one. LA in '92 was the one prior.

The new ones are something different.
The race riots question was for Waggs who seems to think BLM is in the race riot business.

I think you mistaken about the "Hands up don't shoot" chant. It's more of a submission thing and not tied directly to the Michael Brown event. I.E. My hands are up, I'm not a threat, don't shoot me. Probably in response to the LEO "I thought he/she was reaching for a weapon" or the ever popular "My life was in danger".

I think he's dead wrong. I think they are in the Marxism business.
