Maybe because he was not foreign but our own home grown whack job.

Which is not to say, of course, that we don't have our fair share of Christian terrorists here. There was the Olympic Park bombing in Atlanta, the murders of Dr. Barnett Slepian in Buffalo, Dr. George Teller in Wichita, a host of abortion clinic bombings... a long list.

Well, I did a little googling. Man, this story has been so misreported it's mind boggling.

They talk about this mosque as if it is an all new development in lower Manhattan. In fact, it is not. There is *already* a Mosque near Ground Zero: a very small mosque. As their community has grown, the mosque has become too small to accommodate their needs.

In other words, American Citizens trying to exercise their right to worship as they see fit want to build a bigger church to replace their smaller church. Congregations do it all over America all the time. In fact, this project has been in the works for quite a while. Very few cared. It didn’t occur to anyone to protest it because it was such a typical and uninteresting bit of news. Not even Fox News reported anything about the mosque- until…

A NYC blogger decided it was offensive. No one thought anything about it. It would have been built and no one would have cared until this guy mischaracterized what was happening. Confronted with only the headline “mosque to be built near ground zero” with no context of the actual situation, frightened people over reacted.

I understand why people are scared, but they’ve been duped on this one. Now the blogger who broke this important news story has moved on to anti-Semitic causes.

Take a read. Should we now protest the construction of Synagogues?

Now for some more delicious irony on this overheated, ridiculous story:

http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/mo...t-company-trap

Fox has no shame. An owner of the same network that is rallying wingnuts against the "mosque" is a prospective major funding source for the same "mosque." In-f_cking-credible.

Turns out there is also *another* existing Mosque two blocks away from the proposed "new" Mosque. Another Ground Zero Mosque that had zero controversey.

An amazing Fox News interview. Laura Ingram is all buddy buddy with the wife of the Imon.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7WbT...layer_embedded

Ingram says she can't really find anyone who is against the mosque. Thinks what this group is doing is just great- explains that they're all for asymilating people into America.

"I like what you're trying to do" she says at the end. Amazing how she's characterizing people who are opposed to this Mosque. Makes them sound like a fringe element, and Laura Ingram is here to stand up for the good Muslims building this Mosque.

Wonder if she would repeat that on the air today? America, you're being played.

The irony is that planners of the cultural center are actually seeking to encourage discourse. They want to include a program to promote understanding among different religious cultures. They would welcome reasoned discussions of differences and concerns about perceptions of what are the actual tenets of the Muslim faith. The opponents don't want discussion; they want capitulation. Of course any change in the plans to build the cultural center will give the Taliban, al queda and all radical Muslims further evidence that the US want's to destroy their faith. The more I think of it, more fear and hatred also advance the agenda of the American radicals (Gingrich, et al.)

Regards,

D-Ray

As I've stated once or twice on this forum in the past, I feel that my personal freedoms are under greater threat from the religious right/wingnut fringe than they are from anyone in the Arab world, bin Laden included. Bin Laden and 20 knife-wielding maniacs can do only limited damage to our country unless we're complicit in making the damage much worse.

Here's a bit more irony from the story.

Quote:
By conflating their demented ambition with Jews in general, they cleverly shifted the blame onto unwitting Jews, using them as Trojan horse, human shield and human sacrifice. Many gentile anti-Semites oblige by blaming all Jews regardless of individual responsibility. (And these critics have great moral pretensions.)
The blogger is indignant about blaming an entire religion for the misdeeds of the few. Hasn't that tactic been used elsewhere?

Regards,

D-Ray

I am with the stupid guy, the Fox people's collective IQ probably hovers around 65 on a good day.

If you listen to these people you begin to realize that they are first and foremost cowards who are driven into a state of abject fear, mostly by their own inner demons. This fact is clear from their constantly projecting their most detestable qualities and actions onto the object of their fear and hatred. If they weren't so dangerous I'd actually pity them.
