Maybe I look at this differently because I came from outside. When I started working down here no one asked me did I want SS, they just took a big chunk oof money from my paycheck and called it FICA. When I asked about it I was told it is a contract with the government and they will pay you when you retire. (The did not but insisted that I take it at 65 even though I worked until I was 73.) Some "contract" where congress can change the fine print any time they feel like it.

The balance of my income is from a pension from where I worked in Canada. So the taxpayer can breath easy - until the next time Congress decides to screw them over.

Actually that giant sucking sound was the 1% sucking 98% out of the GNP so there was little left for the middle class

BTW We paid for our own insurance, might have qualified for some government assistance had we gone with ACA but did not bother.

How do you know if you don't know what Dave does for a living?
I don't mind some of your put down posts, but if you are illogical it has little impact. FWIW, it's not very easy to find good hard working people who are loyal to their paychecks.

Actually, it is pretty easy. Just pay them far more than they are worth and offer them a PERS.

Good basic question.
How would one determine, outside of what the market bears, the relative value per hour of, say a general medical practicioner vs a warehouse foreman, or a technical draftsman?
Training vs skill vs available pool of prospects?

Interesting. What determines how much someone is worth?

The marketplace.

Their family and friends.

Self perception.
