I watched an old Shirley Temple Movie on youtube last night. I think it was made in 1936 and it was called "Dimples". She was an amazing child star that's for sure and I doubt she ever was a racist at any time in her life. However that movie had many scenes in it that would make you cringe. Indeed. Many of the classics are peppered with racism. Holiday inn back in the day was one of my favorites. Viewing it today, I find it is particularly offensive, from Mammy waiting on the rich white Cosby to Cosby in blackface....
