Ulnar struck. Perhaps there's something in this for you beyond typical lib frothery. At least I admit I have a personal issue with guns that generates all my gun frothery.

The media doesn't coddle anybody but viewers numbnuts. They don't care if the left likes them or the right likes them. All they care about are the numbers. And this little tidbit of low rent "journalism" suits the ratings just fine. If the situation were reversed and it got all this play...I don't think the media would worry about being accused of coddling anybody. What the media would certainly be accused of is racism.
