Racketeering Teachers.

11 teachers in Atlanta were convicted of racketeering: they conspired to gain monetarily by cheating.

They were convicted of what is business as usual in the upper end of Wall Street, tho corrupting the intellectual resource pool at the entry end is much worse imo.

How could teachers devolve to this? Physically changing scores, thus promoting
unworthy students...For a Few Dollars More.

"Obama’s Race to the Top initiative — which pit states against each other in competing for federal funds in exchange for implementing specific school reforms — linked student test scores to teacher evaluations and pay."

.......and it lead directly to corruption. Adding individual monetary reward/punishment did little more than facilitate greed and intrigue. Human nature.

It's a similar situation as the incentive plan where I work; It has been a failure. A handful are actually rewarded for individual performance, some are rewarded for dubious reasons that have nothing at all to do with actual performance. The rest see this corruption and their morale and attitude plummet. Human nature again.

Efficiency decreases in this environment. IT DOES NOT WORK.

I've seen it time and again.

Dave

Incentives without rigorous oversight and accounability tend predictably not to work as intended, just like Wall Street.

I believe that parents make a substantive difference in the progress of students. I have seen too often where money thrown at the system shows little or no result.

Good mentoring, whether at home or elsewhere, is a vital ingredient to encouraging intellectual resource development.

How could they, indeed. But in support of Pio's comment...how could investment bankers and agents screw people out of their life savings in the 2008 meltdown? How could they pimp particular stocks and then behind everybody's back, refer to them as crap and short their own investing in them...and not be prosecuted for it? How could our government sign recruits for 4 years of service and keep them in combat situations for 6 years?

Selective outrage...it seems to me.

Lot's of that going on.

Most of it being focused on those that are stealing chump change.

The lesson being, if you're going to steal, be a white dude, wear an Armani suit, and steal billions.

Then you get to keep all the money you stole, plus when the house of cards you built falls down you get a government bailout out of which you can pay yourself more big bonuses.

But these Teachers?

From the pictures I've seen most of them are black.

For them it will be "Go directly to the slammer for hard time."

"Do not pass Go"

"Do not collect $200."
