Fuck WalMart.
Yeah, I don't like Walmart either but they've come out against the Indiana law and Arkansas bill.

Quote:
The Arkansas bill now goes to the state’s Republican governor, Asa Hutchinson, who expressed reservations about an earlier version but more recently said he would sign the measure if it “reaches my desk in similar form as to what has been passed in 20 other states.” But the bill already faces a significant corporate backlash, including from Doug McMillon, the chief executive of Walmart, the state’s largest corporation, who said Tuesday afternoon that Mr. Hutchinson should veto it.

By the way, Hutchinson's veto doesn't really mean a lot. In Arkansas, it only takes a majority vote to override a veto.

So, the same ass clown majority who voted for this piece of shit in the first place can just vote to override the veto.

It is interesting on a few levels to find Walmart speaking out in opposition to this bill. For one thing it demonstrates how deeply respect for the rights of the LBGT community has taken root in the mainstream. It also shows that impact on the bottom line is an effective tool for raising social consciousness. I still wonder whether, if the Walmart officials felt it served its bottom line, Walmart might find some religious opposition to the provision of birth control.

Regards,

D-Ray

I graduated (BA) from Arkansas and have kept abreast of NW AR developments related to business.

If Wal*Mart believed support for the bill would help them, capitalistically? They'd be for it.

They know better.

Big business is all about the bottom line and most of them have figured out that alienating gays can adversely impact your bottom line.

I know it's a stereotype, but my anecdotal observations have shown me that gay people, on average, are more artistic and creative than the general population. Employees like that are an asset to most businesses. You don't want to lose them.

On the marketing side, although some gay couples have kids from either former hetero marriages or adoption, most of them are DINKS, (Double Income, No Kids). That means they have more disposable income. Not a group you want to alienate if you want to sell your products.
