[QUOTE=barbara;249753]By the way, I'm not knowledgable about the extensive training a law enforcement officer receives, but common sense tell me that if someone goes for an officer's weapon after assaulting him... The officer would not be doing his job if he didn't pursue the person. Are officers just supposed to let themselves get punched in the face and give up their weapons?[/QUOTE

When has anybody suggestion that Wilson should have given up his weapon to Brown? Holy crap Barb you're really testing me on my language clean up by saying something like that!

As for pursuing him, if he's a suspected rapist or murderer, Hell yeah! But a cigar thief? Cheap cigars at that? How hard would it be to round him up later?

How many 6'4" 292 lbs young black dudes that look like Fat Albert are there in that neighborhood? Or was Wilson afraid he was going to hop on a plane to Rio to avoid extradition?

Even if Brown did grapple for the gun, that makes the shots while Wilson was in the care justified, as they almost certainly would have been just by the assault through the window, without any grab for the gun coming into it. But that is all they justify.

The matter of shooting and killing Brown after he flees is another matter. That matter turns on what Brown and Wilson did while Brown fled and after he stopped. I would like these things to have been explored in open court, with a defense attorney defending, and a prosecutor prosecuting.
Plus one. I read that same LATimes article that IceNine referenced and this was a peculiarly run grand jury investigation. Some legal eagles are calling it "smart" but unprecedented.
Here's that link again. http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-...126-story.html

He robbed a store, committed criminal assault twice, and went for a cop's gun, all within a few minutes. It seems to me that if you're willing/stupid enough to do such shit, you may find yourself catching a bullet. It comes with the territory.

It seems to me that the racial grievance gadflies could have picked a better poster child.

He wasn't 'picked as a poster child.' He was killed and left in the street.

Now, is 'due process of law' only for admirable people that you like? With street justice just fine for others?

He was indeed picked as a poster child by racial grievance gadflies (e.g., Sharpton, MSNBC, and all the folks orchestrating the protests all over the country...).

As far as I'm concerned, catching a bullet while assaulting a cop is due process. The only issue of due process in this case is whether the authorities would have allowed the threat of mob violence to violate due process for Officer Wilson.

The assault, if there was one, and all we have is the word of the killer on that, was over when Brown was shot. Unless you think running from someone that is chasing you with a gun constitutes a continuation of an assault on the part of the one running away.

Skew the facts any way you want. He assaulted a cop after having robbed a store and assaulting its owner. Play with fire and you get burned.

There are myriad examples of law enforcement overreach. The racial grievance community should have picked a better one.

Wilson choose to pursue him and finish him off. That to me was murder.
The Police Officers job was to apprehend the perpetrator. Not let him leave, what kind of officer would he of been? The suspect had already shown a propensity of violence. One who did not want to be arrested for assault on a police officer and for robbery.

Monday morning quarterbacking by those of us who don't serve and protect is all that it is. The Prosecutor I feel from day one was only going thru the motions to satisfy the local population and media. Accomplishing neither!

Your idea of due process is pretty much jungle rules, seems to me. Cutting down guys that cross the cops is OK, but getting pissid about is horrible? Your problem is you don't see that people you don't like have rights you are bound to respect.

I think that is fully as bad as stealing small cigars.
