Ah, so if you give physical and mental trauma a dismissive name, it doesn't count?
If two guys with sufficient physical advantage dropped by and did it to you, I imagine you'd think it counted. You very likely would appreciate a little of the empathy you are pleased to withhold in the case of Perez.

I would adhere to conditions I am aware of, acquiesce to the scholastic authority I've already recognized or -- at the very least -- submit to those empowered to enact compliance in open society.
Basically, because I am not an entitled dumbass presuming I can do what I desire whenever I choose to do so, there would be no "physical (laughable, by the way) or mental (self induced) trauma."
I don't empathize with idiocy.

How is this not over-reaction?

But we're going to do it to you even through you don't 'deserve' it. You were found (by our guys in the field) non-compliant after participating in Internet pissing contests. Oh, that's not a crime? OK, charges dropped.
And while we're at it, we'll whap your teenage daughter a few times with a soft rubber hose, because she tried to 'interfere.' Oh she'll feel it, she'll yell and cry, but hey, it won't even leave a mark. She probably feels entitled to live rubber-hose free, but too bad. Stop being whiny, she's not 'hurt.'
And if you sue us, we'll tell the court we have a right, and you all deserved it, and the court will AGREE!
Look, you have your rationalizations and your self-righteous posturing on the internet, but you'd sure hate it if some badge-heavy assholes* inflicted field punishment on you and your family. Welcome to Ixel's world. Enjoy.

Ixel manufactured her world.
She can thank herself.

Why didn't the cop WANT to say "Hand over your phone or you will be arrested?"
It might have worked, coming from the cop. Would have saved him a lot of time and effort. And if it didn't work, what has he lost? He can still tackle her.
But given the decision to arrest is made, why didn't the cop WANT to say "turn around, put your hands behind your back." That might have worked too, and then the thing would have been quick and easy. And again, if it didn't work, he can still tackle her.
Face it, it was the cop's choice to go to immediate violence. They wanted to do that. Why? Is that a service they offer the school, performing a form of corporal punishment, which the school is prohibited from doing?

You don't mess around in airports or schools.
Compliance. NOW.
That's life, chosen by her.

I admire the job police do, but they're wrong on this one. A school is not an airport. A girl who won't let go of her phone is not a threat. A sane human being ought to let her go. Let her calm down. Deal with it through suspensions, detention, or other non-physical means. If what the police did follows the law, the law is wrong.
