Is it me or does it seem like the dollar is not going very far these days?

I read most of "Someplace like America" and couldn't finish it, because it reminded me of people I've actually metand a few minor things I experienced myself. Like being treated like absolute dirt for being a "Damn Yankee" in the south. It really isn't common anymore, and a lot has changed since the '80s. But, back then I ran into a few people who had extremely shitty attitudes towards northerners on a several occasions. One was a supervisor in a meat warehouse that started dogging me and a guy from the Pittsburgh area on our very first day. Frank Loftis was it's name. I say it, because I regard that sack of garbage as something less than human. Frank was the biggest hateful prick I've ever met in my life. And management knew this. When we filed our grievance, they didn't even question it, they just moved us to another department, telling us Frank has "problems". Yeah, "Problems" as in he was a sheet wearing shitkicker who needed to loose a few teeth and maybe get dragged from a trailer hitch down a set of railroad tracks for a few mil.............

Okay, now I'm ranting. Time to go chill in front of the tube.
I have seven straight twelve hour days coming up. It's gonna suck, but I volunteerd for it, so I shouldn't complain.

Dave

I have the series set to record. I'm sure to watch next week.

Made me think of a story I listen to on my local NPR station about the myth of upward mobility. A study of parents mostly Fathers and their sons and the jobs they had. Taken from data of the last 150 years. Comparing the U.S. to England in the story mainly.

Might be tied to this study, still looking for the story link. If anyone else heard it pass it along. http://www.npr.org/player/v2/mediaPl...55&m=198444060
