Why Republicans Lose
I just had to post this opinion piece by right winger David Horowitz.
It is so full of shit, but it gives you insight into how these assholes rationalize their positions.
http://dailycaller.com/2014/08/01/why-republicans-lose/
Quote:
Over the last fifty years the Democrats have trapped tens of millions of poor black and Hispanic children in schools that don’t teach them, because they are run for the benefit teachers unions and to fill the Democrats’ slush funds. Democrats have condemned these children to lives of poverty and hopelessness. But Republicans are too polite to mention it.
And women? Over the last fifty years, Democrat-designed welfare programs have seduced single mothers into accepting a support system that destroys their incentives to better themselves and condemns them to lives of permanent poverty as members of the underclass. A free apartment, free food, and a monthly stipend would kill almost anybody’s incentive to seek out the vast opportunities that America affords its free citizens.
Republicans need to understand that the political battle is a moral battle. The Democratic Party is a racist party whose bootheel is on the necks of poor black and Hispanic children and their parents across this nation.

There's definitely an element of truth to his first paragraph. The rest is mostly warmed-over conservative claptrap.

The symbiotic relationship between the Democratic Party and the teachers unions is abundantly clear and let nobody convince you that teachers unions exist for the sake of students.

You're really down on public sector unions.
I'm not a big fan of them myself but my experience with them is that they are really too weak to have much of a negative, or positive impact.
We had one where I worked for the State of Florida and it was a joke. We used to call it "collective begging".

At best, public sector unions are worthless. At worst, they can be quite harmful. The Democrats do a good job of conflating the merits of private sector and public sector unions, mostly because of the demise of private sector unions.
"All Government employees should realize that the process of collective bargaining, as usually understood, cannot be transplanted into the public service. It has its distinct and insurmountable limitations when applied to public personnel management.
The very nature and purposes of Government make it impossible for administrative officials to represent fully or to bind the employer in mutual discussions with Government employee organizations...
"The employer is the whole people, who speak by means of laws enacted by their representatives in Congress. Accordingly, administrative officials and employees alike are governed and guided, and in many instances restricted, by laws which establish policies, procedures, or rules in personnel matters."
- Franklin Roosevelt

 and management does?
Unions exist to protect the workers from unfair treatment from management and their customers. In the case of schools, the customers happen to be parents who often will chuck fairness aside when their snot nosed kids complain about all the injustices heaped upon them by ol' teach.

No shit.
Things have really changed since I was in school.
Back then we only had two rules.
Rule number one: "The Teacher is always right"
Rule number two "If the Teacher is wrong, refer to rule number one."

Let's not forget all of the parents who are absolutely certain their kid is the next Einstein and when the little halfwit can't comprehend "See Spot Run"......they blame the school. Then there are the undisciplined parents raising obnoxious, undisciplined future convicts who blame the school for their kids cretinous behavior. Then there are the ones that think it's the public school systems job to hold Bible class every morning and never fail to be outraged when a teacher suggests that there might be more to the real world than a sheltered WASP upbringing can prepare them for. And, of course, blame the school for the decline of morality in our "Christian Nation".............
No, it's the all the schools fault and the answer is, obviously, to cut funding. That'll teach the Commie bastards.

Thanks to the Teacher's Unions, only one ia a thousand manage to get fired.
How is that for job security?
