New gun law in Oregon
Not sure how well it will all work, but at least they are trying to do something.

Good for them. It's an attempt to curb the sale of weapons to criminals and lunatics by "law abiding gun owners and dealers", which is, after all, one way they get them. The other is to steal them from "law abiding gun owners"..........
More guns = More gun related crime. If this weren't true the United States would have the best statistics. We don't. We have the worst, outside of war zones. And, this is why.
Warmest Regards,
Dave

“This misguided legislation will make lawbreakers out of average citizens,” the Oregon Republican Party said in a statement outlining its opposition to the bill. “The government does not have authority to register firearm sales between private parties. As such, this law is unjust and will create a black market in private party firearm sales, making it harder for law enforcement to do its job in investigating firearms-related crimes.” Nice bit of double speak on the Repugnant Party's part.

I really don't see what 10 bucks or so is gonna hurt. It might be hard to find someone to do the check, as some dealers are worried about their "reputations", but I am pretty sure that the ones willing to do them will get plenty of business.

Unfortunately it's not....I inherited some nice pieces from my father but have no use for them. Talked to some folks about possible sale and was told that several sheriffs are refusing to enforce this law and that several people refuse to comply. That makes for a "black market" right there.

I'll trade you some Altec 604s for a Winchester 45-70.

Heh...Not one of those sissified Marlins, is it? I want one like TR's with the octagonal barrel and the pistol grip stock.

Actually, they both have their place Bob. The Winchester is the rifle of choice for rifle length cartridges (especially the pre 64 models), but the Marlin is the choice rifle for pistol length cartridges. I wouldn't trade my Marlin 1894C in .38 magnum for any other pistol length out there. I used to have a Model 94 30-30 with an octagon barrel, but just as with stereo equipment, there will always be something I wish I still had.

Another factor, IIRC, the Marlin lends itself to easy and rigid scope mounting. The Winchester not so much.
