How about a lawyerly answer. People should comply with the law. When there are laws against prostitution, they should be obeyed. Whether such laws should exist is another question.

There is certainly a practical argument to be made that removing prostitution from the underground economy would cause less victimization by those who would exploit vulnerable individuals engaged in the practice. It is also not a great logical leap to suggest that we should not prohibit private acts between consenting adults, even if the consent is dependent on cash changing hands. I have personal objections to the practice, but as I have mentioned, I have personal objections to many practices that are legal as well. This is simply an instance where I believe that the moral judgment should be a matter for the individual. If there are matters that move prostitution out of the area of purely personal choice, my answer might be different, but I don't have information in front of me that would spell out what those matters might be.
